If this is the first time that you hired a virtual assistant especially an offshore one, you are probably feeling a mixed of emotions. Excitement, Enthusiasm, Worry and Confusion.
It may seem difficult to work virtually with an assistant not to mention if your assistant is located thousand miles away from you. Here are some tips to help you work with your virtual assistant.
1.
Know the timezone difference. Your offshore virtual assistant may have a different time zone than yours, maybe exactly the opposite of your time so it is important to be familiar with his/her timezone. Remember, he/she is also human not a robot so it is important that you both agree on a working schedule that will both work for you and your virtual assistant. He/She may agree to go out of his/her way and work during his/her graveyard shift but make sure not to abuse it.
2.
Be clear with instructions and timeline. One of the great advantages of working virtually is that internet can provide the right tools to bridge the distance. However, even if armed with latest tools and techy stuff, it is important to give clear and concise instructions when working with an offshore virtual assistant. Anticipate the possible questions that he/she might ask. This will help save you time and email messages back and forth. Make sure that you are clear with the timeline and deadlines of the project. State the timezone if needed. For example: "I want this done and finished by 9AM EST".
3. Socialize - Get to know your Virtual Assistant on a personal level. Chat with him/her a few times a month, not about work but just get to know him/her personally. Establish a good and strong working relationship with them esp if you plan to work with them on a long term basis. This will help get to know their strengths and weaknesses, likes and dislikes.
Hope this helps
